Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has sent a warning to the country’s government agencies over the embezzlement of government funds. While speaking at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, the prime minister forbid his cabinet from entering into unnecessary agreements during elections.
“We must be careful not to misuse national resources and enter into illegal agreements. We have to be very careful and vigilant.”
The prime minister told the cabinet and all government agencies that no one could make dismissals or appointments without his permission.
“Mistakes can happen, and they can be rushed. There should be no dismissal or new appointments.”
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister instructed the Director General’s of various ministries to abide by the directives of their ministers.
The PM’s statements come at a time when there is ongoing dispute over a contract agreement between the Minister of Commerce and a private company who signed a contract ensuring the quality of goods arriving at Mogadishu’s port.
The Minister of Trade has suspended the Director of Quality Assurance for opposing the agreement, while the auditor general also called the deal illegal.
