Puntland State of Somalia threatens to take tough decision against Farmajo’s term extension

The Puntland state of Somalia has warned that it will make a tough choice against Farmajo’s term extension if the house of representatives does not remove the controversial term extension for Farmajo.

According to the statement, the state highlighted the only possible solution to the current political stalemate of Somalia is the federal government to show interest in implementing the 17th september agreement of last year in Mogadishu.

Puntland has called for a resumption of talks to resolve the ongoing electoral deadlock in Somalia while declaring it does not recognise the Lower House resolution which extended the term of president Mohamed Farmaajo for two more years.

The state parliament voted on Monday against the resolution a day after clan elders in the state condemned the extension move.
Farmaajo has maintained the resolution of the Lower House was legitimate and has sought the support of the African Union following a trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday.
