A Qatari delegation that arrived in Mogadishu has formally started mediation talks between Somalia’s opposition candidates and the Federal government of Somalia a day after the country’s house of representatives reversed Farmajo’s extended stay in power on Saturday.
Mutlaq Al-Qahtani, the special envoy of foreign minister of Qatar held separate meetings with some members of the opposition candidates and the federal government to restore confidence between the political stakeholders.
Al Qahtani is also expected to have a bilateral meeting with the council of opposition Presidential candidates in Mogadishu. Initial reports say, finding a long lasting solution to the current problems and possibilities of holding an urgent election will be on the agenda.
Somalia lower house members on Saturday voted to adopt the 17th Sep agreement on electoral process after president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo appeared before the house and asked them to reverse their previous decision.
