Somalia’s Deputy Minister for Humanitarian Affairs Abdirashid Hassan has directed 16 employees allegedly sacked by minister Khadija Mohamed Diriye, to report back, a move which sparked a standoff between the minister and her deputy.
In a statement, Hassan asked employees to neglect the order, terming the directive by minister Diriye illegal and unprocedural. The ministry noted that any order sacking employees during this transitional period violated the Prime Minister’s decree on May 25, 2021, which put a moratorium on such actions.
The deputy minister said It is not uncommon in this transitional period for citizens’ rights to be violated to take advantage of the electoral situation in the country.Minister Diriye has not yet commented on the statement by her deputy.
According to a complaint letter addressed to Somalia’s top leaders by the sacked employees, Diriye had dismissed the staff over unknown circumstances.
