Somalia’s former president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, officially opened the new town campus of SIMAD university. Hassan Sheikh is the cofounder of the university and its first president.
Also in attendance was the former minister Mohamed Hussein ODawa, members of parliament, religious leaders, university alumni and other dignitaries.
At the ceremony, the innovation center of the university, ISIMAD was also launched. The dignitaries toured modern facilities such as the library and the innovation center.
The ceremony kicked off with a speech from the university president, Dhir Hassan Arab. He briefly elaborated on the recent achievements made by the university and it’s 2040 vision. The university plans to open the medical, science and technology campus which will host fifteen thousand students with a research and referral hospital.
The former president also gave a history on how the university was founded and the long and arduous path to where it is now. He thanked the chairmen who succeeded him at the university leadership for the developments they have made.
