A large number of Somali ethiopians have rallied against what they called “ a provocative ethnic violence” against their community. Some protestors who spoke to the media said that an Afar Militia attacked a Somali civilians in Garba Esse district of Siti region. An allegation that the Afar state authorities never responded to it.
The Protestors have asked their state leader to immediately intervene in these recurrent Ethnic conflicts to find a lasting solution. Somali authorities of Ethiopia vowed to take action against militias from the neighbouring regional state, Afar, who reportedly attacked a town in Somali region.
The two regions have long-standing territorial disputes. Early this year, about 100 people were killed and dozens sustained injuries after cross border attacks took place along the border of the two states.
Both authorities from both states traded accusations with each other of starting the deadly clashes. The land dispute between Afar and Somali states lies behind the recurrent clashes between Somali and Afar communities living along the border between the states.
