Somalia government forces are reportedly in control of Gambarey, Dawale and Geed Diyaan towns from the Al Shabaab fighters who have been in control of the area for the past years. A high-level government official told the media that Danab security forces are in firm control of the city.
Government forces said that their forces managed to destroy Al Shabaab hideouts during the operation and added they are committed to safeguarding residents during the military operations until they clean the group from the area.
Alshabab has neither accepted nor denied the claim by the federal government troops. The group has been behind hundreds of attacks over the years, including a 2017 bombing in the capital Mogadishu that took some 600 lives, the worst attack in the Horn of Africa country’s history.
Alshabab has been fighting in Somalia for over a decade to topple the central government and establish Sharia law understood in their own interpretation.
