Somalia and China have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations following a meeting between the country’s state foreign minister, Balal Mohamed Osman and Chinese ambassador to Somalia, Fei Shengchao in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
In a statement, Somalia’s foreign ministry said the officials discussed the existing relations and cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance and develop them.
During the meeting, they also discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation between Somalia and China and intensifying it in various fields to achieve the common interests and aspirations of the two friendly countries and peoples, in addition to regional and international developments of common interest.
Somalia and China signed their first official trade agreement in June 1963.
The Republic of Somalia campaigned for an end to China’s diplomatic isolation and strongly supported its admission into the United Nations.
