The Federal governments of Somalia and China have discussed the fight against Covid-19 during a meeting between Somalia’s Health minister and China’s Ambassador to Somalia in Mogadishu.
Somalia and China considers mitigating the surge of Covid-19 in the country. During the bilateral meeting between health minister Fauzia Abukar and China’s Ambassador Qin Jian, the two officials discussed on the growing risk of this pandemic in Somalia.
Fauzia Abukar clarified that China has donated Sinovac vaccines which will arrive in Mogadishu soon. She also thanked the China government for extending support to Somalia.
China is providing free vaccines to 53 countries including Somalia according to the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia. The death toll from covid-19 in Somalia is sharply increasing since the government formally announced its resurgence in the country.
At the end of last month, Somalia received the first batch of doses of the Oxford of the Astrazeneca Vaccine. marking a crucial step in the fight against the virus as deaths continue to rise.
