Somalia and Turkey are strengthening their military relations as Somalia’s government officials confirmed to the media. This will help the two countries give special attention on security and war on terrorism which the horn of Africa state is paralised for.
Somalia’s military chief Odawa Yusuf Rageh travelled to Turkey to have a meeting with his counterpart. The two officials are expected to discuss issues pertaining a comprehensive approach to counter terrorism and regional securty.
During his stay in Turkey, the Somali military chief will also have meetings with top officials of the Turkish defence ministry to prioritise expediting Turkish efforts of reforming Somalia national army. According to Somali officials, the countries are committed to keeping their national interests.
Turkey is one of the powerful countries that widely trains the Somali national army. It has its largest embassy in Africa and many people consider Somalia as the closest Turkish ally in the continent.
