Somalia national army forces say they have killed at least 50 Alshabab fighters including senior members in an operation in Daarulain village of the Middle Shabelle region. Speaking to the state media, the army officials affirmed that the military operation was a preplanned attack targeted at the group.
Initial reports say the army attacked Alshabab members at a time the group members were gathering in the village to plot attacks against the government forces. However, Al Shabaab officials have not yet confirmed the death of the 50 members as the government forces also did not tell the casualties on their side.
In recent days, there have been military operations carried out by the government forces and pro government local militias aimed to eliminate Alshabab from the Middle Shabelle and across the country. Since the war started a few months ago, the government claimed to have killed hundreds of Al Shabaab members and liberated strategic villages.
