A delegation from Somalia has attended the first-ever Chinese hosted Horn of Africa peace conference in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa. . The forum is an “initiative from China to enhance stability, development and good governance in this important region”.
Somalia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Mohamud Abdi Hassan and other government officials arrived in Addis Ababa on Sunday to participate in the forum. It is likely the regional states will extend additional security support to Somalia as it hosts the largest bases of Alshabab.
The Horn of Africa peace conference will be the first of its kind after China appointed veteran diplomat Xue Bing as its special envoy for the Horn of Africa region in February this year.
