The federal government of Somalia has urged its neighbouring country Kenya to reopen the Mogadishu embassy. Somalia announced that it will also reciprocally reopen its embassy in Nairobi.
Kenya had on Thursday said it will reopen its airspace for flights to and from Somalia without giving any reason, a move welcomed by Mogadishu. Nairobi suspended all flights to and from Somalia in May.
The suspension did not affect medical and evacuation flights and those operating under the United Nations humanitarian missions. Somalia also cut off diplomatic ties with Kenya last December, accusing Nairobi of interfering in Mogadishu’s internal affairs.
Kenya, however, later reversed that decision and announced it will reopen its airspace for flights to and from Somalia, a move welcomed by Mogadishu. For the past months, the two horn of africa states faced their worst diplomatic relations in this century.
