While elaborating the meeting between Somalia and Egypt Presidents in Cairo, the spokesperson of Somalia’s President Abdikarim Ali Kaar has denied in strong terms that President Hassan Sheikh discussed the Nile issue with his Egyptian counterpart.
He noted that the agenda of the meeting was centered on a wide range of issues including the strengthening of relations between the two countries, trade and security but rejected that they had raised the Nile issue. He clarified that Somalia encourages Egypt and Ethiopia to comply with the international agreements and to use the Nile water projects peacefully.
This comes in the wake of the Egyptian President’s statement that he discussed with his Somali counterpart on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue and they have highlighted the danger of unilateral policies when implementing projects on transboundary rivers.
