Somalia’s Electoral commission has broken the silence on the failed Dhuusamareeb talks. It is urging the country’s political stakeholders not to give up and insists they must reach a political deadlock as soon as possible.
The Controversial Electoral commission also condemned the failure of Dhuusamareeb talks, describing the move as a misfortune but expressed optimism that the political stakeholders could resolve their political disagreements. However the electoral commision did not mention the government’s mandate that is expiring in just less than 48 hours.
There are fears that the country could miss the 8th February deadline for ealecting a new president after days of negotiations between the central government and federal states collapsed on Friday.
The impasse could usher in a political crisis in the Horn of Africa nation already confronting a violent Islamist insurgency, a locust invasion and serious food shortages.
