Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia is hosting the electoral consultative meeting . Most of the regional leaders have arrived in the city to attend the meeting.
Prime Minister Mohamed Roble has expressed optimism the talks will result in a deal to pave way for elections. He added that he was committed to taking ‘facilitative measures that will lead to the success of this conference.’
The meeting will be the first one to be chaired by the PM after previous talks led by outgoing President Mohamed Farmaajo. Somalis and the internationalist community are closely following the outcome of the talks amid hope that this will be the country’s last chance to get the electoral issue right.
It remains unclear if the African Union will still be playing a role in the talks after the Federal Government said it had withdrawn its support for the former Ghanaian President John Mahama to lead the mediation team.
