In a press conference in Mogadishu, Somalia’s deputy information minister, Abdirahman Yusuf Omar Al-Adala, reported that the army conducted planned operations that took place in Lower Shabelle targeted more than 200 al-Shabab members, who were gathering for an attack on the Somali people.
Somalia’s government said they have killed 136 members of the group including senior officials. Pronouncing the senior officials who was killed, Minister Al-Adala said Salman Dheere was among those killed in the attack, who was in charge of coastal operations, and ma’alin Salaxay who is responsible for the attacks in the districts of Aw-Dhigle, Qoryoolay and Janale, and ma’alin Al-Hashi, who was the leader of the Jab’hads.
The government said during the operation the army destroyed a cache of weapons belonging to Al-Shabaab, and seized military vehicles in the area. the Deputy Minister also praised the involvement of international partners, who are assisting Somalia’s military during their recent operations in the country, calling on al-Shabab fighters to surrender to the government and stop following what he called the wrong path.
