The federal government forces and pro-government militia have claimed to have recaptured and liberated Gal’ad town of Galgaduud region from Alshabab in a military operation. The ministry of defense made the pronouncement on Monday.
The liberated town has been one of the Alshabab strongholds in the region for many years and positions in the southern part of El-buur district. Military officials said this town was a key to Alshabab and used to connect its fighters in the Galgaduud region.
Neither Alshabab nor government forces have disclosed the exact casualties on both sides to the public. However, Alshabab fighters have recently withdrawn areas in Galgaduud following the national army forces approach to their hideouts.
In this week, government officials underpinned to develop new military strategies towards the liberation villages and towns under Galgaduud after they claimed victory and control most previous Alshabab strongholds in Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
