The federal government of Somalia has provided emergency food aid to the people of Hiiraan greatly affected by drought. Four planes carrying relief aid have touched down in the towns of Beledweyne and Buulaburde in Hiiraan region.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Hamza urged the clerics to take the initiative in aiding the people of Hiiraan, particularly the most recent victims whose houses were razed and wells blown up by Al-Shabaab.
Due to the ongoing devastating drought, Mahas district hospital in Hiiraan region, Hirshabelle state is grappling with an overflow of a huge number of children and adults battling malnutrition, with the food aid expected to provide the much-needed relief for the people.
