Three young men belonging to al-Shabab surrendered to the security and intelligence agents in the Hudur district of the Bakool region . Abdullahi Moalim Ibrahim, one of the defectors, told the media that he wanted to get a formal education before being seduced to join al-Shabab.
He also confessed to taking part in battles as an al-Shabaab militant, particularly in the Aato district of the Bakool region and described how difficult it was for young men like him to escape from al-Shabaab and asked for forgiveness.
Government officials pledged to welcome anyone who defected from al-Shabab and promised that those who surrendered peacefully would face no harm. They also made promise for the new defectors for better lives if they make the right choice and deliberately reject Alshabab’s ideology.
