Somalia’s government spokesperson Mohamed Ibrahim Moulimu has been elected as MP for Somalia’s next federal house of representatives. Moalimu who returned back to the country on Wednesday from Istanbul, Turkey where he has been receiving treatment for injuries he sustained from a suicide bombing that targeted him, was awarded his certificate of candidacy by Hirshabelle State Electoral body on saturday.
He is a veteran journalist who previously worked with BBC Somali as a reporter stationed in the capital Mogadishu and also served as Secretary General of the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) before he was given his current post as a Somali Government Spokesperson last year.
He has escaped unhurt in several bombings and attacks and was wounded when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest detonated himself near his vehicle along Makkah Al Mukarama road on January 16. Moalimuu was airlifted to Turkey for specialized treatment where he stayed for close to 38 days being treated for his injuries.
