The Federal Republic of Somalia and The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forge closer partnership to bolster the economic and social impact of aviation in the country.
A new agreement has been signed between Kamil Alawadhi, the Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East at IATA, and H.E. Fardowsa Osman Egal, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
This agreement establishes a framework for increased cooperation and lays the foundation for expanding IATA’s presence and operations in Somalia.
The air transport sector has a substantial impact on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making it a crucial tool for advancing Somalia’s progress and development.”
The goal of this agreement is to tap into the significant potential for social and economic advancement by adopting international standards and best practices. Minister Fardowsa Osman Egal envisions a thriving aviation sector that contributes to Somalia’s prosperity. We are committed to bringing this vision to life by turning the terms of the agreement into tangible results,” Alawadhi stated.
This agreement serves as a foundation to further IATA’s mission for aviation in Africa, which is to establish a safe, efficient, sustainable, and economically sound air transport sector that drives growth, provides employment opportunities, promotes international trade and tourism, and plays a crucial role in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by fostering connections between nations.
