Somalia International partners have condemned the ongoing conflicts in Guriel town in central Somalia where the Galmudug state forces backed by the federal government troops and the Sufist group Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a are fighting.
They urged both sides to restore peace and avoid further military actions. The UN said the situation has forced over 100,000 people, many of whom are women and children, to flee their homes and seek shelter in nearby villages which are affected by drought conditions and water shortages.
They were urged to respect international laws and have obligations under international humanitarian law; the principles of distinction, precaution and proportionality in the use of force must be adhered to, including protection of civilians and treatment of wounded hors de combat.
The regional state clarified their reluctance of accepting the sufist group to return to the village despite the group’s claim of fighting against Alshabab not the regional forces.
