According to Somalia national army forces, about 34 Al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and several others wounded following security operations by Somalia National Army (SNA) in the southern part of the country.
Quoting military officers, the state owned media reported that the forces destroyed al-Shabaab training bases in Southwest, Hirshabelle and Jubbaland states, a claim that Al Shabaab fighters have neither accepted or denied.
The development comes amid al-Shabaab having attacked two towns in Galgadud region after the government forces withdrew from the areas for unknown reasons. Last Monday, heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters briefly took control of Mataban town without a fight.
A day later, the group captured another town of Eldheere, 30 km (18 miles) south of Galmudug’s capital Dhusamareb. Al-Shabaab fighters bombed the police station before taking over the town.
