Somalia national army forces claimed to have killed 60 Alshabab fighters including senior officials in a military operation in Hiiraan region. The army officers clarified that the operation against the group was pre planned and successfully conducted.
According to government officials, the military operation was conducted after the army forces received intelligence reports indicating that the group had a growing threat against the locals. Alshabab has neither accepted nor denied loss.
Speaking to the Somali national army radio, Dhamme Jamal Elmi, a Somali military officer announced the army defused explosives planted on roads by Alshabab which the army said the intention was to harm the civilians.
In the last few days, The Somalia national has been carrying out operations against Alshabab in some areas of Hiiraan region, pledging the operation will continue until it meets the objective.
