Somalia National Army has said that it has killed a senior Al shabaab leader and dozens of his bodyguards were injured during a security operation in the Middle Shabelle region. Somalia National Army senior commander noted that the forces also arrested two other senior al-Shabaab officials during the operation.
The operation took place along the road linking Balad and Jowhar towns. This operation comes a day after several AL Shabab fighters were apprehended by Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission (AMISOM) forces in a joint operation.
According to the Army, the mission was aimed at ensuring free movement of Somali people on the main supply route of Mogadishu-Jowhar. Somalia government forces have this week intensified operations against al-Shabab in the region on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
