

The early onset of the Spring 2023 rainy season, accompanied by heavy rains in the Ethiopian Highlands, has caused the water level of the Shabelle and Jubba rivers to rise to alarming heights, which is expected that at any time there can be floods in the districts where the rivers pass.
The National Disaster Management committee reported that the systems are monitoring the water level of the Beledweyne and Jowhar Rivers through the Shaheelle River have risen in recent weeks to more than 2.5 meters, Also, the water level of the river in Dollow and Bardere districts, which passes through the Jubba River, is expected to rise this week, which is the highest level, which means flood risk is now too high.
Therefore, The National Disaster Management committee warned the community during the next 96 hours, it is possible that some parts of Beledweyn district would be flooded, which may affect the life and lifestyle of the communities living in the areas under Beledweyn district.
However, While there are still effects of the drought in the country in recent years, the Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) is calling on the aid agencies in those areas to prepare for another renewed situation, and show assistance to the people who are in need, through Cities where the Shabelle River flows. Meanwhile, SODMA is closely monitoring the latest developments in these situations, and will provide updates on the situation.
