Members of Somalia’s parliament voted unanimously to donate 20% of their February salaries to victims of the twin earthquakes in Türkiye. This follows after Prime Minister of Somalia Hamza Abdi Barre announced on Thursday at an event held in Mogadishu to raise money for the earthquake victims and said that the People and the Government have raised $4 million.
The Banadir Administration on Friday announced that they will be taking part in the donation and giving a sum of $250,000 to support the victims of the earthquake.
Furthermore, two private institutions in Somalia have donated 4 million Turkish lira (approximately $212,430) to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).
More than 39,000 people have been killed by the two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye, according to official figures.
