Somalia Prime Minister, Hamse Abdi Barre has appointed a nine–member interim Electoral Committee to organize vacant parliamentary seats elections in the House of representatives.
Some of the seats became vacant after the elected lawmakers were appointed to other positions in the government by President Hassan Sheikh and they now want to prioritize their new role in the government.
Two seats were left empty by Mahad Salad who is the chief of Somalia national intelligence agency and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre. The chief of NISA and the Prime Minister are not allowed to remain in parliament as MPs under the constitution.
The newly appointed committee is expected to release the timetable for the election in the coming days.
