Somalia President appoints key figures for Banadir region

The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has appointed four Deputy Governors and one Secretary General for Banadir region. A statement released by Villa Somalia stated that the President’s decision to appoint the officials was in response to recommendation the president received from the Ministry of Interior.

The President appointed Isse Mohamud Goure as deputy governor for Administration and Finance. Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh) as the deputy governor for political and security Affairs while Asis Osman Mohamed, deputy governor for social affairs. Hassan Mohamed Jimale for deputy governor for General Affairs while Faisal Arale Afrax as the Secretary General for Benadir region.

The President’s appointment comes at a time when he is on tour in Galmudug and Hiiraan regions to assess the conditions of the recently liberated areas from Alshabab and encourage the locals to be part of the liberation operations in their respective areas.

Banaadir itself remains one the places Alshabab frequently carries out attacks although, the group was removed from the region in 2011 but still claims the dealiest attacks takes place in Banaadir including on 29 october twin bombs in Mogadishu.
