The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in a wide-ranging interview with Al-Jazeera talked about the state’s fight against the al-Shabab group which has been the only rival armed forces against the government for the last decade.
Hassan Sheikh talked about the government’s efforts to liberate and eliminate al-Shabaab from the country. However, In January this year, government-led forces recaptured the port town of Harardhere, an al-Shabab stronghold marking one of the most significant victories of the offensive.
Hassan Sheikh stated his government is always ready to open a space for dialogue with Al-shabab group and will welcome everyone who aims to defect to the government and his administration is working hard for the government and the Somali people to work together to eliminate al-Shabaab.
Meanwhile, Hassan Sheikh last year, a few months after his re-elected declared an “all-out war” against al-Shabab, saying that So many people have tried to stop this via peaceful means but Now the Somalia government decided to solve this through an all-out war, reporting that there’s no other option other than to take this group to a level where it cannot threaten the stability of the country.
