Somalia President discusses security, economic ties with Eritrea

In a four day official visit to Asmara, Eritrea on invitation, President Hassan Shiek Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia is believed to have discussed security as well as economic relations amongst other pressing issues with his counterpart President Isias Afawerki.

This is not President Hassan Sheikh’s visit to Eritrea since assumption of office this year. It would be recalled that President Moxamud visited Asmara, Eritrea to strengthen ties with his counterpart Isias Afawerki with a chance to assess a number of Somali Army Brigade in Eritrea military barrack where they completed training.


At an invitation of President Isaias Afwerki, President Hassan Sheik Mohamud was accorded warm welcome upon arrival at Asmara International Airport. The senior Somali delegation includes Mr. Abshir Omar Huruse, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia.
The welcoming ceremony was also attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab.


Analysts believe the invitation to cement on the existing bilateral ties between the two east African nations with a view to collaborate on security to fight against insurgencies in the region.
Al-Shabaab is the largest network in the horn which has to lunch attack on Somali and East African nations.
