The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting with the Standing Committee of the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Somalia and focused on the struggle to liberate the country from Al-Shabaab.
The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor, the First and Second Deputy Speakers of the People’s Assembly, Saadiya Yasin Samatar and Abdullahi Omar Abshir.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on the Lower House to expedite legislation to bolster the government’s war against the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Among the laws the President targets are those aimed at strengthening regulations on anti-terrorism financing and money laundering. Somalia passed the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Terrorism Financing (AMLCF) law in 2016 but analysts say the law is not watertight enough to cut off terrorism financing.
He has urged the Committee and Members of the Federal Parliament of Somalia to speed up the approval of laws and policies that the government is submitting, and to strengthen the cooperation between the two entities.
