President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has hailed the Somali national army (SNA) for its bravery in crashing al-Shabaab fighters in central Somalia. Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters on Friday morning attack a military base in Bahdo town of Galmudug State of Somalia, prompting hours-long fighting with Somali forces in the town.
President Mohamud said that the heavy casualties that the residents in Ba’do and the Somali National Army inflicted on Al-Shabaab members show the determination of the Somali people to face the hardships of Al-Shabaab.
Somalia’s Galmudug state forces claimed to have killed at least 70 Alshabab fighters including foreigners. On the other side, Al Shabaab’s Radio Andalus said in a broadcast that the al Qaeda-linked group lost nine fighters and said it’s fighters had killed 27 soldiers during a fierce battle after morning prayers.
The federal government forces repeatedly said they had intensified war on Alshabab while the group recently said they are determined to seize Somalia and rule out negotiating with the government.
