President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed has suspended Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble from work hours after both leaders traded accusations of undermining elections.
In a statement, President Farmaajo said the premier will undergo investigations over alleged corruption and misuse of public land. The president’s statement read that the Prime minister entered the fray with allegations of corruption and misappropriation of public funds, and an investigation is underway to determine the allegations.
It added that other members of the Council of Ministers would continue their duties in accordance with the laws and regulations of the country. On Sunday, President Farmaajo and PM Roble had exchanged statements in which both leaders each accused the other of holding up ongoing parliamentary elections.
Farmaajo said Roble had deviated from the rules of the electoral process, he tore apart the mandate of the electoral commissions and violated their independence.’
In a sharp rejoinder, Roble fired back at President Mohamed Farmaajo accusing him of seeking to derail the elections and secure a more extended stay in office. Roble said the outgoing president had attempted severally to undermine the elections since he handed him over the responsibility in May this year.
