Somalia President travels on state visit to Rome, Italy



The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has arrived in Rome, Italy, where he began an official visit to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who received an invitation from the Head of the country, will hold meetings with his counterpart Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss the development of cooperation between the two countries, the situation in the region and the implementation of the agreements they have already entered into with Somalia and Italy.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is carrying the national plan to eliminate Al-Shabaab, has presented to the Italian leaders the areas that the Federal Government of Somalia needs support at, to achieve a complete victory in the offensives against Al-shabab, and to bring stability and peace to the Somali people.

Also, the two countries are discussing cooperation in other areas including investment, economy, industry and education, the President and the delegation he led on this trip will sign agreements based on the interests of the country with their counterparts in Italy.

This visit follows the one made in Mogadishu last June by then Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio, who met the President Hassan Sheikh in the first stage of an African tour which later also took him to Ethiopia and Kenya.

During their talks, the parties discussed Italy’s continued support for Somalia and the further strengthening of relations, as the Somali presidency specified, Italy remains a strong partner in Somalia’s search for stability and progress.
