The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamed has paid a visit on Saturday for inspection to frontlines in the anti Alshabab war which he recently launched. The state media reported he will evaluate conditions in recently captured areas in Hiran, Galgaduud and Mudug regions.
The war between the federal government backed by pro government militias and Al Shabab has intensified as the government claimed recapturing strategic villages and killing hundreds fighters from Alshabab, a claim the group has neither accepted nor denied.
Meanwhile, the President’s visit coincides at a time the war against Alshabab has been temporarily halted for unclarified reasons and were reported that the group reclaimed the control of recently captured areas.
Last week, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated his commitment to winning the war against Alshabab noting his government will not relent and also urged parliament to shore up support for the war effort.
