

The Prime minister of Somalia Hamse Abdi Barre continues his meetings with top federal and regional members over strengthening the country’s security. He held a meeting with some of the leading sheikhs of Banadir region along with his religious affairs minister and agreed on the importance of keeping the region safe.
The meeting follows the deadly attacks on Hayat Hotel which was claimed by Alshabab and left at least 21 people dead. On the other side, the Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre has increased efforts to seek humanitarian aid for the victims hit by the severe drought. According to the UN, the number of people affected by the severe drought ravaging several parts of Somalia rose to 7.8 million as of August.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said in its latest report on drought released last week that Bay and Bakool regions of southwestern Somalia are the most affected, where more than 1 million people are affected by drought.
