Somalia government forces said they have arrested one of the senior Al Shabaab officers in Marka town of lower Shabelle region, who masterminds the group’s attacks against government bases.
The suspect who was identified as Aweys Mayow Eelay, accused of masterminding several deadly Al-Shabaab bombings in Marka, had been captured during the operation. According to reports, Aweys was busy planting landmines in Marka Ade to harm civilians at the time of his arrest.
A raid at his home also revealed a cache of weapons including grenades and landmines which were confiscated by the security forces. The SNA official said a spirited operation to flush out members of the group who have continued to cause instability in the Lower Shabelle region will go on until their objective is met.
