The Interior ministry for Somalia’s Galmudug state has outlawed weapons in main cities. The regional administration also criminalized and sent strong messages to those who have illegal weapons at their homes.
The officials told the people who have illegal weapons to hand them over to the regional security forces. This statement came barely a few hours after two soldiers were killed and more injured in Dhuusamareeb town.
The administration did not explain what motivated them to take this decision but it is clear that Somalia has been mired in security challenges for the past decades. Most of the civilians are armed claiming for self defense and their disarmament can take a long time.
Organized groups and individuals are part of the deteriorating security matters in Somalia. Some are fighting in the name of Islam, others for political purpose and the organised murders are not exceptional.
