Somalia’s National Security Advisor, Hussein Sheikh-Ali, has presented an extensive strategy aimed at the timely withdrawal of the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
During a recent announcement, he outlined the government’s commitment to complete preparations by December 31st, 2024, leaving a mere 18-month window for implementation.
One of the primary objectives of this plan is to eradicate the long-standing threat posed by Al-Shabaab, thereby ensuring the country’s liberation. The comprehensive approach to neutralize Al-Shabaab is anticipated to encompass a combination of military and non-military tactics, as per the authorities.
The Security Advisor disclosed that significant progress has already been made in enhancing Somalia’s defense capabilities. Notably, the training of 10,000 soldiers has been successfully accomplished this year, and the government intends to continue investing in the training and equipping of its armed forces.
