Somalia’s Foreign Minister meets with Qatar Ambassador

The newly appointed Somalia foreign Minister Abshir Omar Jama has held his first meeting with the Qatar ambassador to Somalia. According to Somalia’s foreign affairs ministry, the duo have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relations following talks between Somalia foreign minister Abshir Omar Jama and the Qatari ambassador to Somalia.

The Ambassador also congratulated the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia on his appointment and wished him long-term success in his assigned tasks and expressed his country’s role in supporting Somalia.

Mogadishu and Doha developed close ties since the horn of the African nation’s neutral stance on the gulf diplomatic crisis in June 2017 where Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt imposed land, sea and air sanctions on the tiny nation.

The Qatari government has donated dozens of military vehicles to the Somali military in a bid to intensify efforts to restore peace in Somalia.
The Gulf country also helped the Horn of Africa nation build roads connecting the capital to Afgoye town which is in the Lower Shabelle region.
