Somalia’s Puntland state announces to operate as an independent state from federal government

Puntland said in an official statement, it will conduct its own affairs like an independent government until the constitution is completed and referendum is held while underlining it wants to be part of the state building process in Somalia including completion of the constitution.

The statement added, Puntland will continue cooperating with other Federal Member States and will allow its ministers to collaborate with their Federal Member States counterparts on development and humanitarian projects.

Puntland also underpinned there should be agreements to settle Somaliland – Puntland contentions as well as Somaliland and the federal government regarding the Somaliland’s case as an independent country.

The statement of Puntland came barely a day after, the regional leader Saed Abdillahi Deni criticized President Hassan Sheikh ‘s stance on Las Anod tension and alleged him of wanting to legalize Sool for Somaliland, he further said, that led him to oppose to sign the recently concluded federal government and its member states’ meeting in Mogadishu.
