Somalia’s Sheikh Sharif meets Southwest state President on election issues

Somalia’s Southwest State President Abdiaziz Lafta-Garen has received at his official residence in Mogadishu, former President Sheikh Shariff Sheikh Ahmed who is now running for presidency. They discussed the general situation in the country and the upcoming Presidential elections.

Sheikh Shaif, a front runner for the election, seems to be concluding his final campaigns engaging in talks with the heads of federal member states ahead of the election. He was the first Somalia President to start Somaliland-Somalia talks.

Somalia is expected to hold a Presidential election on May 15 at the Afisyoni tent near Mogadishu’s Aden Abdulle International Airport after two years of push and pull among the top Somali leaders over the management of elections.

Presidential candidates have presented their campaign speeches at the parliament. Their main common agenda included security, establishing strong government institutions and Somaliland-Somalia talks.
