Two senior al-Shabaab operatives were among more than sixty al-Shabaab fighters killed in fierce clashes with Somali military in Lower Shabelle region. Heavily armed al-Shabaab fighters on Friday stormed two military bases in Anoole and Sabad localities, prompting hours long fighting between the sides.
The Somalia National Army said it foiled the early morning attacks by the group on Sabiid and Anole districts, in the Lower Shabelle region.The names of the two al-Shabaab commanders were identified as Ali and Xanbaleey.
Al-Shabaab has not commented on the claims by Somali military.The clashes between Somali military and Al-Shabaab fighters in south and central Somalia have increased in recent months.
