The Minister of Information for Somalia’s Southwest state, Ilyas Ali has officially declared his resignation to the public. Explaining what made him take this unprecedented decision, he clearly stated that it relates to the current political tension over the regional leadership election.
Ilyas Ali criticized Friday’s clashes in Baidoa and put all the blame on Laftagareen’s administration and believes the regional government could have prevented casualties from happening in the city. Also said, he made several mediation calls to the President but all fell on deaf ears.
He recommended to the regional President to transfer power peacefully if oppositions insist on the timely election and oppose the term extension to avoid further chaos. The official called on the federal government to make an immediate intervention to lower the tension and restore the political stability of the state.
On Friday, opposition figures accused the incumbent leader of Southwest state, Abdiaziz Laftagareen of intentionally attacking residential houses of the opposition figures, a matter the regional administration pledged to investigate.
