Suspected Al Shabaab fighters reportedly killed at least 15 people while traveling in vehicles carrying food in Afar-irdod village, located between Beledweyne and Mahaas district in the Hiiraan region on Saturday.
The group also set fire to the vehicles and food that were en route to the Mahaas district, where Somali government forces and anti-al Shabaab militia have recently begun army movements against the Alshabab.
The reports added that vehicles that went to the scene to take the dead bodies were hit by roadside bombs, with no casualties reported. The al-Qaeda-affiliated armed group al Shabaab did not respond to the attack. But it carried out similar attacks in the past.
Al-Shabaab fighters have already blown up water wells in approximately ten areas of the Hiiraan region’s Matabaan and Mahaas districts and burned down houses in about seven locations in the Mahaas district.
