Three members of the Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in a mine explosion in the Bardhabaq area of Buuloburde district in the Hiran region.
The three, who were also armed with AK47 rifles, had their days numbered after a mine they were trying to plant on the road in the Bardhabaq area exploded, killing them on the spot.
Military officials and officials from the HirShabelle administration toured the scene and confirmed the incident, noting that the three had been blown up and their bodies badly mutilated.
On several occasions, Al-Shabaab has planted mines, which have always caused catastrophic damage to both members of the military and government officers and civilians. Hundreds have been killed and many others maimed after accidentally stepping on the mines or vehicles hitting the explosive devices while on roads targeted by the militant group.
The most recent incident came just a day after an explosion went off on the outskirts of Booco, killing a number of government security officers. This is after concerted efforts by the Somali National Army to clear all the roads in Beletweyne and Buloburde and remove all the landmines planted by Al-Shabaab from the roads.
