In what is not yet independently verified, spokesperson for the Tigrayan forces, Getachew Reda, has claimed that Ethiopian and Eritrean government forces launched an attack in Ethiopia’s northern region of Tigray on Thursday targeting Tigrayan forces.
Taking to his Twitter page on early on Thursday, Getachew Reda, the Tigrayan forces spokesperson, said that the two “forces have launched massive four-pronged offensive early this morning in the #Adyabo area of Northwestern Tigray!”
Meanwhile, requests for comments on the sides of Ethiopian government spokesperson Legesse Tulu, military spokesperson Colonel Getnet Adane and the prime minister’s spokesperson Billene Seyoum proved abortive. Also, Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel dodged any form of comment.
On Wednesday, Addis Ababa made a statement accusing the Tigrayan forces of launching multiple attacks on government forces. The two sides apportioned blames for breaking a truce pact.
The conflict in Ethiopia has shaken the region and destabilized Africa’s second-most populous country, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has urged the Ethiopian government and the TPLF late on Wednesday to “immediately halt military operations” and work on ending the conflict.
