The Turkish Parliament on Tuesday approved a one year extension of the Turkish Naval forces in the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian sea and Somali waters. This approval legalises the Turkish naval forces to actively take control of these areas due to the security of the merchant Turkish flags or having ties with turkey.
The Turkey government said this is intended of the involvement of international community’s joint operations against Pricay and Maritime insecurity of Somalia. The report said this extension will be effective till 10th February of next year.
The operation will also continue to carry out its mandate in line with UN Security Council resolutions, as well as assist the international community in maritime operations outside the region’s territorial waters.
The Turkish troops are part of Naval forces approved by the Security Council- to fight piracy in the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and Somali waters, a multi-party operation involving the international community and the European Union, launched in 2009.
